Permeability testing is a basic investigation technique required for many underground activities. All the way from Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) for oil and gas applications to simple Lugeon tests whether on pipe or wireline, IPI offers tools using our high performance inflatable packer technology to economically and reliably get the answers you need.
ST Well Test Tools
IPI's ST range of multi-cycle inflatable packer systems features a four-stage operating mechanism that enables packer inflation, annular circulation, interval testing, and complete shut-in isolation. The ST range can be configured as a single packer or a dual packer straddle assembly both with a standard pressure rating of 5,000 psi (10,000 psi version available). Its multi-cycle functionality allows for multiple formation evaluation tests or stimulation cycles to be performed on different zones within a single trip.
STX-60 Well Testing Tool
Well Testing Tool with an integral down-hole shut-in capability and setting tool, enabling both more advanced permeability testing (e.g. IFO) and multiple straddle testing in one trip (making significant operational savings). Can be run on rods or through-the-bit in P and H sized wire line systems or on rods for N size. Modular single/straddle format with a wide range of packer options - including medium pressure SWiPS series and high pressure versions for rock stress testing. Can circulate while testing and check rods integrity prior to testing.
Standard Wireline Packers Systems (SWiPS)
The through-the-bit wireline hydraulic packer system that is now the world leader for permeability testing in deep and demanding core holes. Available as standard for “P”, “H” and “N” sizes, in modular single / straddle formats. Straddles from 1m to 10m length with optional memory gauge carriers. Modular, compact and simple, SWiPS® makes testing possible where gas-inflate packers can't be used. "H" size can be readily adapted for "P" size wells with 70mm elements and "B" wells can be tested in non-wireline format.
Down Hole Shut-In Valve (DHSIV)
A zero-volume change, down-hole shut-in valve for tight-formation permeability testing operations.
Low Pressure Inflatable Packers
Are available for pressure grouting and other applications and include a variety of ancillary equipment.
IPI O-Rods were specifically developed to provide a 100% leak tight rod string for hydrogeological investigations. Typically mineral mining rods such as the Q-series are used for these applications but such rods, even new, are not guaranteed to offer leak tight connections.
Slim Hole Formation Tester
The IPI Slim-Hole Formation Tester is a highly customizable system designed to assist with detailed characterization permeability testing in tight rock. It comprises a straddle packer assembly, downhole pressure sensors cabled back to surface and the IPI DHSIV and can include all necessary surface measurement and logging systems.
