IPI personnel
have undertaken many special inflatable packer projects,
both at IPI and previously, when at AGE Developments. Whilst
at AGE Developments they played leading roles in the design
and fabrication of the above pile reforming packers,
which played a critical part in a vital offshore
gas project that had suffered an unforeseen set back.
Pile Reforming
For
a somewhat unusual operation AGE Developments designed
and built what may be the largest high pressure inflatable
packers in the world. The operation was the opening
up of 2.5 metre diameter piles that had partially
collapsed during driving. Apart from the structural need
for opening, these piles also needed to be drilled through
for installation of secondary insert piles.
The inflatable packers finally produced for this project were 1.83m
(72”) diameter with 6m (20’) rubber length and rated
for 15MPa (2000psi) inside 2.56m (100”) ID piles. The overall
element weight was approximately 26 tonnes.
IPI are frequently commissioned to undertake developmental work
on projects that are frequently of a confidential nature, but typically
in the oil and gas sector.
